How Do I Know When It May Be Time?
Knowing when to say goodbye is rarely straightforward. You may be noticing changes in your pet’s comfort, mobility, appetite, breathing, behaviour or ability to enjoy the things that once mattered to them.
We can talk through your concerns and help you consider your pet’s comfort and quality of life. We will offer compassionate and honest veterinary guidance, without pressure, so that you can make an informed decision for your pet.
You do not need to wait until a crisis to contact us. We welcome early conversations, even if you are not yet sure whether the time has come.
What To Expect From A Home Euthanasia Appointment
Before the appointment, we will speak with you about your pet’s health, your concerns and any wishes you have for their farewell. We can also discuss the practical arrangements and the aftercare options available.
1. Time to talk
When we arrive, we will take time to meet you and your pet, answer any questions and explain what will happen. Nothing will proceed until you feel ready.
2. Gentle sedation
Your pet will usually receive a sedative injection first. This helps them become deeply relaxed and sleepy while remaining close to you in familiar surroundings.
3. A peaceful farewell
Once your pet is peacefully asleep and we have confirmed that they are fully relaxed, the final medication will be given. You may remain beside your pet throughout.
4. Time afterwards
You will be given privacy and time with your pet after they have passed. There is no need to feel rushed.
5. Aftercare
When you are ready, we can help with your chosen aftercare arrangements, including individual cremation with the return of ashes, communal cremation or arrangements made independently by your family.
A Farewell That Feels Right For Your Family
Every pet and every family is different. We will do our best to make the appointment feel personal, calm and respectful.
You may wish to:

What Happens After My Pet Has Passed?
When you are ready, we can help with your chosen aftercare arrangements. Options may include individual cremation with the return of ashes, cremation without the return of ashes, home burial where this is appropriate, or arrangements made independently by your family.
Individual cremation
For families choosing an individual cremation, we work with Bluebell Wood Pet Crematorium, a compassionate local, family-run business. Your pet will be cremated individually and their ashes returned in your chosen container or keepsake.
We share Bluebell Wood’s commitment to treating every pet with dignity, care and respect throughout their final journey.
Cremation without the return of ashes
We can arrange respectful cremation where your pet’s ashes are not returned to you.
Your own arrangements
You may prefer to make your own arrangements with a pet crematorium or choose home burial where this is appropriate and permitted.
Home Euthanasia Prices
We believe it is important that you understand the likely costs before making arrangements. Home euthanasia starts from £295 and includes the home visit, gentle sedation and euthanasia.
Cremation and other aftercare services are charged separately. Additional travel or transport charges may apply depending on your location and the arrangements required.
As a Community Interest Company, we believe that financial circumstances should not automatically prevent a family from accessing compassionate end-of-life care. In some circumstances, we may be able to offer a reduced fee or discuss alternative payment arrangements. This is considered individually and depends on the support and funding available at the time. Contacting us does not commit you to arranging euthanasia. Pallipaws also offers hospice and palliative care at home, and we can discuss whether either of these services may be suitable for your pet’s individual needs.
Can you arrange cremation?
Yes. We can discuss individual cremation with the return of ashes, cremation without the return of ashes and other appropriate aftercare arrangements.
Do I need a referral from my usual vet?
Families can contact Pallipaws directly. With your permission, we may communicate with your usual veterinary practice when clinical information would help us plan your pet’s care.
